Water Thinker
Feb 2, 2010
My hat goes off this morning to Lucy Saunders as I continue to read about her spearheading efforts to bring water usage

Water, water...
to the forefront of the conversation.
Water is after all the highest percentage of the ingredients in beer. We must not and cannot afford to ever take it for granted.
The great thing about the beer community is that – by and large – they are all progressive conscientious people, engaged in creating a high quality product and aware and concerned about the impact of what they are doing.
Lucy has been writing about beer for a long time, sharp, and helping further progressive thought.

hi Ginger, thanks for the post – the inspiration for the project is due to the timing for the Great Lakes Compact – it was just passed as an international agreement last year BUT the actual regulations and permit codes to implement the GLCompact in each state and province are being written now – for starters, all businesses within the Great Lakes basin have to conserve water, and overall, it’s a smart move to save money and build a sustainable business. The National Wildlife Federation has a good website with info on the GL Compact, the Great Lakes Regional Center – http://www.nwf.org
FYI – the next water conservation workshop for craft brewers and cheesemakers is in Rochester NY on March 26- details and agenda at conserve-greatlakes.com, workshop sponsor Alfa Laval USA, plus a craft beer and cheese tasting sponsored by Briggs of Burton Inc.,
cheers, Lucy
