Conferences are a unique opportunity to proactivate your brand – in the form of you actually walking and talking with others.
Having recently attended the 5th annual CiderCon in Chicago Illinois, here are few thoughts all brands can apply: beer, cider, wine, spirits, mead and so forth.
1. Dress the part. Make no mistake: how you look affects peoples’ judgement about your purpose, intellect, work ethic, and capabilities. When you dress up, people stand taller, talk with more conviction and respect, and you do more business.
2. Always, always, always have your business cards with you. No excuses. I wouldn’t be caught dead – anywhere- without mine. They are your connection to communicate and you must have them with you at all times. Put them in all your bags, vehicles (bikes too), and luggage. Tuck them in an easily accessible location – think “it takes 2 seconds to get them out.”
3. Branded wearables. Said another way – invest in professionally embroidered and printed appropriate clothing with your brand name clearly and easily visible. These items will start more conversations than you can imagine. Why be out and about without them?! As a business colleague and friend says, the real estate of my shirt is too valuable to be wasted. She’s right.
At conferences, you can cover so much ground or wander very little. Go to events to educate yourself and to meet prospects and other kindred souls. Muster the mojo to meet 3 people every day at any event you attend.
Connect, brand, communicate, succeed. You and your business are worth it.
